About
La Caņada Flintridge
Manicured
lawns and tree lined streets are the norm in La
Caņada
Flintridge, where top-rated schools and a variety of activities
help create a strong sense of community. La Caņada
Flintridge is a haven for the physically active. In addition
to well-maintained hiking and horse trails and a golf course,
the city boasts a world-class YMCA and a renowned botanical
garden, Descanso
Gardens. The park at the center of town contains not
only a new playground and a gazebo which hosts a weekly
summer concert series. The city is also home to Jet
Propulsion Lab (JPL), one of the nation's premier research
institutions.
Unlike
other cities, La Caņada Flintridge did not build its best
homes on the highest elevations. In the 1920's, the wealthy
chose to build their mansions in the flat, rolling area
south of Foothill Blvd. This area was named Flintridge
after a rich politician. After World War II, the hills
north of Foothill Blvd. were developed, primarily with
housing for professionals and managers. This area became
known as La Caņada. The two cities combined in 1976 to
become La Caņada Flintridge.
Well-maintained
freeways connect residents with the neighboring cities
of Pasadena and Glendale, as well as downtown Los Angeles,
13 miles to the south.
